Happy Halloween folks! During these difficult times, it is more important than ever to stay inside, and if you need to go outside, wear your mask and social distance! Even though this year’s spooky holiday won’t be spent around friends, that doesn’t mean that you can’t dress up! We rounded up 5 of our favorite STEAM-related costumes that are easy to wear, easy to create, and easy to have fun with! These costumes are for everyone of all ages, and if your friend is looking for a last-minute Halloween costume, this article has some of the perfect low-maintenance outfits. With that in mind, here are G. STAR’s favorite STEAM costumes of 2020!
Doctor
It’s pretty clear why we chose a doctor as the best costume to use, given the context of 2020. At the very least, it lets you throw shade at people who don’t wear masks. Professional doctors and pediatricians help treat anyone that is injured or sick to help them recover.

Scientist
There are a variety of different types of scientists. Types of scientists can range from astronomers, who study objects in space, to ethologists, who study the behavior of animals. One of the easiest types of scientists to dress up as for Halloween is a computer scientist. Don’t overthink it -- A plain T-shirt and a pair of jeans will do the trick, along with messy hair and obvious sleep deprivation. For extra effect, get some caffeinated beverage, soda, and/or cup ramen and there will be no question who you’re trying to dress up as. Computer scientists can perform a wide range of tasks, from debugging preexisting code to innovating something completely new, depending on their specialty, but one thing all computer scientists have in common is that they all help to use technology to improve present-day life or to prepare for the future.
If you want to go for a more traditional chemist look, then I would recommend a long white lab coat, goggles, and that’s it. Chemists investigate the properties of matter at a molecular level to try to better understand unfamiliar substances or to create new ones.

Pilot
Airplanes! Something we (hopefully) haven’t been on too much this past year. Though we haven’t been flying too much in 2020, the people who fly the planes are vital to our world. Pilots are the people who control the aircraft by operating its directional flight controls, and there are usually two people needed to fly the aircraft at all times. There is the Pilot, who is responsible for flying and commanding the airplane, and the Co-Pilot, who assists the Pilot with the flying of the plane and the well-being of the passengers. Not only is their job cool, but their uniforms are also too!
All you need for a pilot uniform is a side-button suit jacket and matching pants, a high white-collared shirt, a matching tie, and of course, the iconic pilot hat. Your parents most likely own these items, so if you don’t personally own these, take it from your parents’ closet! (With permission, of course.)
Archeologist
The study of present and past human activity through the recovery of artifacts from the past.

Construction hat - prevent falling debris from hitting your head
White lab coat - to protect you and your clothes from anything that may hit you
Hard+close toed boots - to prevent stubs against hard rocks
Brushes, mini shovel, and other tools to help you excavate artifacts :)
How did we find the terracotta warriors in China? Well, they were discovered by archaeologists! Archaeologists study the present and past human activity through the recovery of historical items or sites. Archaeologists normally have to travel underground to unravel the secrets of the past, so wearing protective clothing is a must. Hard construction hats to prevent falling debris from hitting your head, lab coats to prevent stains on clothing, and strong construction boots to prevent any slips or stubbed toes are examples. To excavate any artifacts, archaeologists will need tools like shovels or brushes to remove any bits of dirt. You can dress up as an archaeologist for Halloween using the same clothing!
Astronaut
They are a pilot/crew of a spacecraft with the main intention to explore space.

Who was the first man to take a step on the moon? Neil Armstrong! Astronauts are the crew/pilots on a spacecraft to explore space! You can dress up as one by getting an astronaut costume like the one in the “Portrait of Astronaut Anne McClain”, or by buying a spacesuit and helmet. Did you know that spacesuits are reused for multiple missions instead of making new ones? NASA is making new space suits right now!

We hope that you have as much fun dressing up as we did look for these outfits! If you finished reading this article, take a picture of your Halloween costume and tag us at g.star_westlake! We’d love to see what you guys come up with! Happy Halloween, and stay inside!
