Finding people of similar interests in highschool can be challenging. With loads of students excited in a variety of activities, you may feel as if nobody shares the common interest of advocating for females in STEAM with you. Fear not, G.STAR is open to new members ready to fight for the same cause of encouraging more female participation in the fields of STEAM. G.STAR has asked its founder, sponsoring teacher, some of its members why they created and joined G.STAR!
“I founded G.STAR in freshman year with the hopes of being able to make a change in females lives. As one of the only 8 girls in my Computer Science class, I was mocked and even ridiculed when the idea of pursuing a career in STEAM came up. I’m hoping to build and encourage an environment where more females are able to participate in the field of STEAM and not feel as if something or someone is holding them back just because of their gender!”
~Adelle Yong (G.STAR’s founder)
“Not only am I passionate about education, but I also want to support and educate the young women at Westlake school who are interested in the STEM field. “
~Ms.Vaughn (G.STAR sponsoring teacher)
“It gave me a kind of purpose in a way. G.STAR gives to the community, and since I was just sitting on the couch eating cereal all day, it was really nice to be able to feel like I was making a difference and contributing to something useful in society, even through quarantine."
~ Joel Sellers (Member)
“I love helping out within my community as well as learning and trying out new and different things!”
~Jacobe Davis (Member)
“Through G.STAR, I would love to achieve many things! Mainly, I want to impact the community around us and make the world a better place. I have loved all of the opportunities that G.STAR has given me. I especially loved getting to research and learn how to make masks by yourself so that we can donate them to senior living homes. I love that it was such a great opportunity and such a great way to impact the community around us!”
~Elise Cox (Member)
“I’ve always wanted to have a community that emphasized the importance of female inclusion in STEAM. I want to be able to support young girls in their journey of finding what they want to pursue in life. If I can help at least one girl follow her dream, it would mean the world to me. I just want to make a difference in the world, one girl at a time.”
~Trinity Nguyen (Member)
These are just a few reasons why we collectively joined G.STAR. If you are hoping to join, just fill out this Google form and you can be part of our movement too!
